Here is a list of the Top 10 Michel Gondry music videos. This guy has done a ton of stuff, so it’s really hard to narrow it down, but I think the following list is a good reflection of his creative genius.
Just as a side note, a lot of new directors try to make their videos look like they are of a high budget, or I should say they horribly fail trying to mimick that look. But the truth is you don’t have to. What’s more important then the MTV sleek music video look, is the originality of your idea.
And that’s where Gondry shines.
His video’s are original. You haven’t seen anything like them before. How many music video’s like the White Stripe’s “Hardest Button to Button”, could you say you’ve seen before Gondry?
None.
At least I can’t think of any.
Beside their originality, what also makes Gondry’s video special is their simplicity. Many of his music videos have simple concepts behind them. Again, take for example, “The Hardest Button To Button”. Isn’t it within the means of any director to do. What would you need? Two principle leads, one camera, and the outdoors. Yet the music video keeps you enticed through out the whole piece.
Why?
Because of their originality, simplicity and Gondry’s genius of course…
