Black Magic Cinema Camera – Dynamic Range Test

Now, I’ve been blogging a lot recently about the Black Magic Cinema Camera, but that’s because I think that this camera will be a game changer for a lot of music video directors and independent filmmakers in Toronto and New York.

So what’s the latest news? Well, Frank at bmcuser.com (http://www.bmcuser.com) has posted an interesting test with the Black Magic Cinema Camera. He’s testing out the dynamic range or latitude of the camera.

Now BlackMagic has stated that the camera has approx 13 stops of latitude. But my eyes see much more. The shadows holds detail while the highlights have a soft roll off. It looked like 14 stops of latitude.

Now this doesn’t mean that you don’t need neutral density filters, but it does give you more leg room when your doing any run and gun shooting.

Take a look at the video for yourself. Just remember that this isn’t a scientific test and that Youtube compression degrades some of the quality. But nevertheless, you can see how much power this little camera punches.
